While the conditions may exist for large hail, there could be only a few large stones mixed with smaller stones not causing damage. NOAA often issues 'warnings' about possible, probable maximum hail sizes, but that does not always line up with what ACTUALLY happened. This results in many false positives and a lot of wasted time and effort on your part.

Our data is based on recorded activity from each doppler radar in the Continental United States. Our system uses that data to create a 'heat map' showing the areas that received higher volumes of hail activity. Our data is filtered to only refer to hail, not areas with heavy rainfall etc.

Understanding how and where the data comes from
Some companies add to the raw radar data, or fill in gaps and sometimes even disregard the data altogether to ensure the narrative they are pushing. Despite how the data is used, all hail-reporting companies get their root data from the same source. If this is true, how can there be differences in maps and reports?
